Technique Drills

Guitar ยท 6 strings

Most players plateau because they practise fast rather than practising accurately and letting the speed follow. Every drill here runs on one rule: play it perfectly four times in a row and the tempo goes up 4 BPM โ€” miss one and it drops 8.

Chromatic 1-2-3-4

Frets 1-2-3-4 with fingers 1-2-3-4 on the low E, across every string and back, then up a fret.

The most efficient synchronisation drill there is. Musically it is nothing; that is not what it is for.

Four clean reps sets it

4 more clean reps to reach 64.

48 notes ยท ~96s

Space starts and stops. M logs a miss without letting go of the guitar.

60 BPM

Moving this by hand clears the reps you had banked โ€” they were earned at another speed.

Accuracy

Plug your guitar in and this will mark every note of the drill against what it asked for โ€” right note, wrong note, or missed entirely.

It never moves the tempo ladder โ€” that stays yours to judge. It only tells you what it heard.

Watch for this

Both hands arriving together. That โ€” not the notes โ€” is what you are actually training.

Fretting hand

  • Fingertips close to the frets, not in the middle of the box.
  • Minimum pressure โ€” press until the note speaks, and no further.
  • Fingers hovering over the board rather than flying away from it.

Picking hand

  • Small motion from the wrist, not the elbow.
  • Consistent pick depth on every stroke.
  • If you are digging in harder as the tempo rises, you are tensing.

Stop if anything hurts. Speed work rewards frequency over duration โ€” fifteen focused minutes daily beats ninety minutes on Saturday.

Scale in position, then in thirds, already lives in Guitar Scales โ€” same click, same ladderless pattern runner. It is not duplicated here.
